About Global Trekking
Guided trekking trips and expeditions, in Israel and around the globe.
Planning, management and guiding: Jan-Shai Deniz.
Operation and registration: the Global Trekking team.
“The density of the contour lines in a topographical map depicts the steepness of a mountains slope, but the map does not depict the people’s beating heart ascending a mountain, neither the smell of rain nor the of the wildflowers”) Yitzhak Shalev(. On our trekking expeditions, we provide the full composition of a well-organized trip: an exciting route, interesting content, professional guiding, required logistical support, good food, sleeping arrangements and everything in between. Nevertheless, looking backwards at the end of a beautiful trekking day, we realize that in fact we solely create the framework which then in its time, comprises the whole flow of experiences, encounters, challenges, laughs, observations, questions and insights – all those things “which are not marked on the map”.

Our Core Values in Organizing and Guiding a Trek
Safety. Professionality. Human Relations. Uniqueness. Reducing the Environmental Impact. Quality of Content. Adventurousness - but never at the cost of safety.

Guiding
Good guiding of a trekking trip comprises the following essential parameters:
1. Optimal hiking pace –moderate but consistent pace that allows us to enjoy our way (which eventually is our goal…) while reaching the mountain pass, or our final destination of the day with air in our lungs and a smile on our faces.
2. An authentic bond between the guide and the voyage companions, as well as a real connection between the guide and field. These are doubtlessly essential elements of a safe, successful and joyful journey in the nature.
3. Quality of content: folklores and stories, the local history, the natural environment, culture, faith – all of these are an important and integral part of our guided trekking experience.

Safety

Professional logistical support
Years of extensive outdoor experiences teaches us that all the logistical details are of high importance for a successful journey while coping with the constant changes of the natural conditions.

Reducing the Environmental Impact
“Take only pictures and impressions, leave only footprints” – love for nature means first and foremost taking environmental responsibility. We Travel with awareness of our Ecological and Sociocultural impact, as individuals and especially as a group. In this manner we are taking constant actions to adjust our way of traveling for the wider goal of minimizing our environmental footprint.

Human relations

Restless curiosity and endless appetite for adventures creates unique journeys…

About Jan-Shai Deniz
My name is Jan-Shai Deniz, I am the founder and manager of Global Trekking.
I am a Geographer, an Explorer, a curious Adventurer and a man of people. A trip to a place where I have not yet set foot in, as well as returning to such a newly discovered place together with my travelers, gives me great joy.
I was born in Switzerland, grew up in Israel and was educated in a Kibbutz. After high school, I went volunteering for one year in Midreshet Ben Gurion, and discovered the most magical, spacious and wild area of our country – the Negev Desert. In the army, I specialized in the full range of outdoor and navigation skills. In 2008 when I was released from the service, I went back to the Negev to guide Trekking tours in the desert.
The positive “symbiosis” that has been created between me and the travellers on each trek, ads to my high motivation. The Negev Desert provides the primal feeling of the ancient act of moving together from one place to another…

One of the aspects I appreciate about being a tour guide is the endless learning and knowledge expansion as an inseparable part of the profession. I studied the comprehensive studies of Tour Guiding with an additional specialization on the desert, licensed by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism in Hebrew, English and German (and Swiss German).
I studied at Ben Gurion University a variety of related disciplines as Geology, Geomorphology and Climate. Middle Eastern Studies, Arabic, History, Archeology, Religions and more.
These days I am conducting an interesting research on behalf of the Tel Aviv University Institute of Archaeology, on ancient routes in the desert, that includes a recent significant discovery- the lost segment of the 2,000 years old “Incense Route”, that led the Caravans from the famous Petra to the port of Gaza.
I’ll finish with the word of Herbert A. Simon: “The choices we make lead up to actual experiences. It is one thing to decide to climb a mountain. It is quite another to be on top of it.”
In other words: let’s don’t just talk the talk, but walk the walk! 😊

What Our Trekkers Say
Great, very experienced and very professional and always "set up" guide and security man (Para Medics).
Very good and comprehensive packing list".

The whole logistics team did a great job! The young people have left a great impression of commitment and inventiveness, Ability to grasp, friendliness and helpfulness.
Jan-Shai was a great, dedicated guide. He has Esprit sprays, his "lectures" were informative, with a lot of knowledge enriched. He had open ears and open eyes for the troops and a good way to lead. Together with Dubi a well-rehearsed team. Dubi as last man in the row was patient and very helpful, always present, but not intrusive.
For my husband and me they were precious days extended before and after in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. We take many valuable impressions, conversations, encounters and pictures with them about the beautiful land of Israel and its joyful inhabitants! Many thanks for all the organization!

Thank you for your guided tour! Three weeks after our desert tour I am still full of joy, full of peace and serenity.
With Helga I had spent some days in Israel after the tour and we recovered a little. I was still able to visit friends in Akko, in Tel Aviv.
Since the beginning of December I have been "overtaken" by everyday life, but: "I come from the desert. And there it always goes step by step". I am very grateful for the opportunity to take this tour with you. To the question if I would do something like this again: YES. Next week I will visit different friends who are also very interested in your trip. I would like to come with them again (then with even more training then before).
I myself have led many group trips (also mountain tours in the Alps) and found it very valuable that you as leader has always brought up the topic of "group". Because the group does not form completely by itself. And I found it very valuable, how you put your thoughts ... with us in view of the rain. Thanks for your good evaluations.
Apart from that I found everything very well organized. The attached video shows your energy! I wish you much strength for your everyday life and your dreams.
Shalom and Lehitraot.
